Kickboxing is defined as a sport of attack and defense, in which competitors wear boxing gloves and throw punches as in boxing and kick with their bare feet as in karate. In this standard sport, fight is called off once the combatant has been grounded. America, Japan, India, Burmese…… diverse countries have dissimilar art of kickboxing. The one thing that is standard in all the countries is how fitness magazines are focusing on this art as an excellent work out option.

The glorious past
Japanese boxing promoter Osamu Noguchi gave birth to the term kickboxing in 1950. An urge to break free from the rules and regulations resulted in the creation of kickboxing.

On December 20, 1959, Thai fighting tournament was held at Tokyo Asakusa town hall in Japan. Noguchi, one of the contesters who established Nihon Kempo Karate-do desired to indulge in Thai kickboxing with full contact. However, at that time this was unimaginable. He announced his plan by giving the sport a tentative title Karate –boxing. 1963 saw Karate Vs Muay Thai fights.

Boxing

Karate fighters Noguchi and Kenjil Kurosaki studied Muay Thai and invented a martial art named kick boxing. In 1966 Osamu Noguchi established the first Kickboxing Association. Once TV started broadcasting kickboxing tournaments it became a craze in Japan. In 1993, as Kazuyoshi Ishii (founder of Seidokan karate) produced K-1 under special kickboxing rules - no elbow and neck wrestling. Jan Plas, the Dutch kickboxer, learnt this art in Japan and founded the first kickboxing organization in Netherlands, in 1978. Soon, other countries were bitten by this sport.
