FedX: Great but Human

Written By: Kushal Dev Sharma
After the departure of Pete Sampras, Tennis fraternity witnessed some vibrant developments – the Hewitt blaze, endurance of Safin and an undying class of Agassi.
Apart from these, the man who stole the show was Roger Federer. Records just keep on tumbling when he plays. Steadily, Federer who’s also referred to as the Federer Express (FedX for short) is on the verge of running out of goals to achieve. With his class and style, Roger has ushered a new era of breaking records.
All is well until some obstacles come in one’s rising career. Last season did not fare well for FedX – a bizarre scenario with 69 wins and 9 losses summarized in five singles titles and three Grand Slams. Though it may be an achievement for some, but this is not what we expect from FedX. Though, 2006 was an excellent one with 92-5 records and 12 titles. Now, again that’s a remarkable performance. Aren’t we expecting too much from a tennis player – a masterstroke but a human being after all?
The halfway concluded
In his late 20s, Federer has just reached the midway of an average tennis player’s life. This is the time, when your body begins feeling a bit weary. With all the due respect to him, there is no such problem with FedX’s fitness. So far, he has not shown any such symptoms of aging. A lot depends upon his footwork and obviously how others play against him.
The same old story
Now that people perceive FedX as the most obvious successor of Sampras – the comparisons take the front seat to make the situation more confusing. FedX does not have that typical KO-style serve like Sampras had. He can earn points throughout the court with some exceptional power shots near the nets. It would be too early to predict, but if we follow the hypothesis – FedX has to alter some of his playing styles to continue for a long run.
What lies ahead?
Fans would certainly expect nothing but precision from a player of his stature. If the inferno has to stay, then we could see FedX cutting short his non-Slam events
appearances. Well, that’s quite obvious that this will help him store his energy for all the upcoming major events. Following the lines, FedX has already cut down some of his exhibition schedules to save time.
After an impressive performance in Grand Slams, FedX is all set to fight for Olympics. As per the recent tennis releases, he is spending more time with his trainers to keep himself in perfect shape for the ultimate event. ‘Seeing is believing’, and no one can be certain about the future. It would be a bad news for his fans who love to see him in action. All those mind-boggling shots and net points will be missed badly – but, after all FedX is another human like us with certain limitations.
