After directing box-office disaster, Lady in the Water (2006) M. Night Shyamalan is all set to save the world from dangerous faceless creatures! I sincerely fail to understand that how a well versed director like Shyamalan didn’t learned from his previous blunders. This time around the mistake of ‘The Village’ and ‘Lady in the Water’ is carried forward with his recent release ‘The Happening’. There is actually nothing interesting to write about; despite good star-cast and well thought theme, Shyamalan fails to deliver this time too.
The Happening is about a family on the run, mysteriously unstoppable threat to mankind, unseen danger gripping Manhattan, people committing suicide for no reasons, a deadly attack from the forces unknown and lot more (or may be nothing at all) happenings in between, until the film reaches to an predictable ending.
Amidst all the confusion and menace from unseen enemy, actor Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Daschanel manage to steal some good moments while one the run.
It’s the element of suspense that keeps audience fixed to their seats, but unlike Shyamalan style of suspense The Happenings does not hold on to it for long. Initially Shyamalan includes terrorists, government agencies and even effects of global warming in his list of suspects for the mysterious deaths.
Let me now leave it just here; because, least said the better it would be…go and watch it to see a good director gone awry!!!
